DSM Food Specialties develops and produces, market ingredients and processing aids for the Dairy, Savoury, Beverage and Nutritional markets.
The Business Group consists of the Business Units Savoury Ingredients, Enzymes & Dairy Ingredients, a Global Sales-, a DSM Biotechnology Center and an Operations organization, and also a number of staff departments.
There is a strong cooperation within de cluster Nutrition with DSM Nutritional Products to develop new ingredients for the market of Functional Food.
DSM Biotechnology Center (DBC) is the center for biotech Research and Development (R&D) within the innovation driven company DSM. DBC is focused on the creation of new and improved products for the internal business units of DSM Food Specialties (DFS), DSM Anti-Infectives (DAI), DSM Nutritional Products (DNP) along with Emerging Business Areas for DSM such as White Biotechnology or Specialty Packaging (EBA-WB, EBA-SP).

The Challenge
As assistant/associate Scientist Applied Biochemistry you will join a company developing the industry standards for specialty biotech solutions. As a specialist you will play an important role in the development of a variety of industrial biotech applications. This ranges from tailored carbohydrolases for biofuel production, specialty enzymes and ingredients for food applications (including yeast extracts and texturizers), to cost-efficient biocatalysts for pharmaceuticals. In your role as assistant/associate scientist, you can, depending on your previous experience and education, be responsible for:
· Defining and performing the experiments leading to the development of new and/or improved (enzyme) applications on the basis of your expert knowledge.
· Successful participation in multi-disciplinary project teams, including specialists from other departments (i.e. genetics, fermentation, downstream processing, analysis, intellectual property, registration, etc).
· Developing and performing biochemical analytical activities, instrumental to the success of our projects.
· Supporting and assisting for the worldwide market introduction of our products.
· Further development of the scientific level of the competence Applied Biochemistry in relation to project demands
The Ideal
We are looking for professionals with a masters (MSc) or PhD education in the field of Food Technology, Food Chemistry, (Applied) Biochemistry, Biochemical Engineering, or comparable expertises. Most preferably, you have affinity with one of our fields of Food Applications (carbohydrates, lipids, fats, enzymes, yeast extracts, process flavours), Biochemical Analysis and/or Industrial Biotechnology (biocatalysts, enzymes, bio processes). Candidates with experience in applied research are especially invited to respond. You have good communication, planning and organizational skills.
