In the Nuplex Resins R&D organization in Bergen op Zoom (The Netherlands) we have an opening for:

Principal Chemist Analytics (M/F)

This Principal Chemist will be responsible for providing the analytic serves required by the site in Bergen op zoom. The position will be in the Analytic lab and will carry out analyses along with the other analytic staff (3).

The job is preferably a full-time position with an option for part-time (min. 0.8 FTE).

Nuplex Resins in Bergen op Zoom produces and develops resins primarily for the coatings market.

The site in Bergen op Zoom is the largest manufacturing facility within Nuplex Resins for polyesters, alkyds, polyurethanes, polyacrylates, amino resins, and hybrids; both solventborne and waterborne.

In addition,it alsohouses Nuplex’s largest R&D facilities.

Responsibilities

• Is expected to bring new knowledge about state of the art analytical techniques and equipment to Nuplex and make relevant proposals to either acquire such new techniques or find ways and contacts to have them carried out by third parties. Hence the principal chemist has good communication skills and is able to build, expand and maintain a relevant professional network and has a flexible attitude.
• Will proactively participate in product development and exploration (mainly at Nuplex Innovation Center) by providing analytical means and methods and so contribute to product innovation and development.
• Will contribute to making the analytical laboratory in Bergen op Zoom Nuplex’s principal analytical laboratory with unique (within Nuplex worldwide) methods and expertise.
• Interest in the techniques currently utilized in the paint and coatings application lab.

Competencies

• Bachelor degree in analytical chemistry or equivalent (BSc or HLO), or academic level (MSc) with relevant experience in an analytic laboratory, preferably in a chemical, polymer or coatings environment.
• Proven knowledge of relevant analytical skills, in particular chromatography (SEC, HPLC), spectroscopy (FT-IR, UV/VIS, NMR), calorimetry (DSC) and wet analysis. Preferably skilled in rheology (viscometry, DMTA).
• Able to develop and implement new analytical methods and tools where needed in order to keep our analytical capabilities tuned to changing resin technologies
• Able to combine seeing the broader relevance of complex issues as well as focus on relevant details.
• Able and willing to build and maintain a professional network, both with external (analytical) contacts as well as within Nuplex. Excellent communication skills. Good knowledge of the English language.
• Capability in statistics, chemometrics, or other additional skills (e.g. physical chemistry, colloid chemistry, polymer chemistry, etc.) will be considered as valuable extra competences.
• Good working knowledge in relevant computer systems and software.
• Younger candidates lacking the required experience but meeting the above other requirements are recommended to apply as well.
